Korean cultural waves or HallyuEspecially Korean Pop (K-Pop), has become a global phenomenon that greatly affects the lifestyle and preferences of adolescents around the world, including Muslim teenagers. On the one hand, this pop culture offers entertainment, inspiration and global connectivity. But on the other hand, the question arises about how the values contained in the K-Pop culture are in line with the principles of Islamic morals. This article aims to analyze the influence of pop and K-Pop culture on Muslim adolescent morals, and provide guidance on how to balance between enjoying popular culture and holding on to religious values.

POP Culture and K-Pop:

Attractiveness and influence on Muslim adolescents

1. POP and K-Pop Culture Attractions:

• Music and Entertainment: K-Pop offers catchy music, energetic choreography, and interesting visuals.
• Idol and role model: K-Pop idol is often seen as role models because of hard work, talents, and positive images that they display.
• Global Community: K-Pop created a broad fan community, allowing Muslim teenagers to connect with people from various countries and cultures.

1. Positive Effects:

• Motivation and inspiration: Many K-Pop songs that contain lyrics about the struggle, hope, and achieved dreams, which can motivate Muslim adolescents to achieve their goals.
• Learning Language and Culture: K-Pop fans are often motivated to learn Korean and understand Korean culture, which can broaden their horizons.
• Creativity and self -expression: Pop culture provides space for adolescents to express themselves through various forms of art, such as dancing, drawing, or writing.

1. Challenges and Negative Effects:

• Inappropriate content: Some music videos, song lyrics, or K-Pop idol lifestyle may contain elements that are contrary to Islamic values, such as disrespectful clothes, excessive romantic scenes, or the use of alcohol and drugs.
• Consumerism: The K-Pop industry often encourages consumerism through the sale of merchandise, albums and expensive concert tickets.
• Excessive idolization: Some teenagers idolize K-Pop artists, so they forget their self-identity and religious obligations.

Muslim teenage morals: Islamic principles as the foundation

1. Moral Definition in Islam:

• Moral refers to behavior, morals, and ethics that are in line with Islamic teachings. Good manners reflect strong faith and compliance with Allah SWT.

• Monoteism: recognize and states that the Almighty SWT is the only god for worship.
• Courtesy: Doing everything is the best and sincere.
• Fair: Be fair to yourself and others.
• Trust: Maintaining the trust and responsibility given.
• Patience: Facing trials with patience and supply.

1. The role of morals in the life of Muslim teenagers:

• Good morals help Muslim teenagers make the right decisions, interact with others positively, and contribute to the community.

Balancing pop culture and Islamic values: strategies and solutions

1. Wise content selection

Muslim teenagers must be selective in choosing the K-Pop content they consume. Avoid content that contains elements that are contrary to Islamic values.

2. Prioritize religious obligations

Enjoying K-Pop cannot interfere with religious obligations, such as five hours of prayer, Ramadan fasting, devoting to both parents, etc.

3. Keep your identity

Muslim teenagers must hold on to their identity as a Muslim and not be influenced by excessive idol lifestyle.

4. Interact with positive Muslim communities

Joining a positive Muslim community can help Muslim teenagers strengthen their faith and morals.

5. Media literacy

Muslim adolescents need to develop the ability to analyze and evaluate the messages contained in the media, including K-Pop.

Islam emphasizes the importance of maintaining morals and choosing the right example. Here are some relevant arguments:

1. Hadith about love and example

This hadith shows that love for someone will bring consequences in the hereafter. So, idolizing figures that do not reflect Islamic values need to be reviewed.

In another hadith, His Majesty Rosululloj saw:

Like the righteous, righteous, and the luminous, like the owner of the holder, and the unnecessary, and the one who promises you from the owner of the touch, or the one who is the same, the limit is burning your body, your garment, or you find a hurtful wind from

Meaning: “Someone who sits (friends) with Sholih people and ugly people is like friends with the owner of the Misik and Blacksmith perfume. If you are not awarded Misik Perfume by him, you can buy from him or at least can be fragrant. (HR. Imam Bukhori)

2. Prohibition of resembling other people

For the authority of Ibn Omar, he said: God’s messenger, may the prayer and peace of God be on it, the word

Meaning: “From Ibn Umar said: Rosululloh Saq said:” Anyone who works hard to resemble people then it is between them “(HR Imam Abu David)

Although this hadith is debated, scholars such as Kyai Ali Mustafa Ya’qub emphasized that the prohibition applies if it resembles in terms of creed and worship, not just a style of dress.

Pop and K-Pop culture offers opportunities and challenges for Muslim teenagers. By holding on to Islamic principles, selective in choosing content, and developing media literacy, Muslim teenagers can enjoy pop culture without sacrificing their religious values. The balance between popular culture and religious principles is the key to becoming Muslim teenagers who have a morality and contribute positively to the surrounding community.
