In the current modern era, communication patterns between parents and children are experiencing big challenges. Survey Common sense media (2024) shows that the average child and adolescents in the world spend More than 6 hours per day In front of the gadget screen, while in -depth interaction with parents decreases. This condition has an impact on the quality of moral education, values, and spiritual children.
Islam has actually given an ideal child education model, one of which is through the story of the Prophet Ibrahim as and his son, the Prophet Ismail AS. This story is not just a history or event that is remembered during Eid al -Adha, but rather Tawheed education curriculum, dialogue, example, and affection That’s relevant all the time.
- Monotheism education from an early age
Prophet Ibrahim US is known as Abul Anbiya ‘ (Father of the Prophets) at the same time Monoteism’s father. Even to his father who worships idols, he calls with softness and logic (QS. Mary: 42-45).
When educating the Prophet Ismail US, monotheism became the main foundation. Allah SWT captures this important moment in His Word:
When he reached the effort, he said, O my son
Meaning: “When the child reaches (age) he is able to work with him, he (Ibrahim) said, ‘O my child! Actually I see in the dream that I slaughtered you. Then think about what you think!'” (QS. Ash-Shaffat verse 102)
This verse is not only about the compliance test, but also shows open dialogue who appreciate children’s thoughts and feelings.
- Strength of dialogue and softness of communication
The Prophet Ibrahim did not necessarily force the Prophet Ismail AS. He invited to speak, hear opinions, and build mutual trust. This model is in line with the principle of communication in children’s education described by Imam al-Ghozali in Ihya ‘UlumiddinJuz 3, p. 72:
And the boy was honest with him and his father, and the pure heart is a naive sponge, which is subject to all what we do.
Meaning: “Child is a mandate on the side of his parents. His sacred heart is like a valuable gem, ready to accept every scratch given.”
This principle shows that children’s education must prioritize softness, not coercion.
- Exemplary in obedience and determination
The peak of education is exemplary. Prophet Ibrahim not only ordered obedience, but he himself runs it, even though it is very heavy. The Prophet Ismail As also answered with faith:
He said, “Father, do what you ordered.” You will find me if God will
Meaning: “Yes, my father, do what you ordered! God is willing you will find me including patience.” (QS. Ash-Shaffat Verse 102)
This obedience is the fruit of a consistent educational process since childhood, such as Dr. Abdullah Nashih Ulwan Tarbiyyatul aulad fil Islam (Volume 1, p. 107):
And the Father is the first of God for the creation of his son and his debt, and he must have in your heart
Meaning: “Father is the first educator for his child’s morals and religion, and must be an example in every behavior and example.”
- Affection without attitude to have
Prophet Ibrahim As taught that children are entrusted by Allah, not absolute personal property. In the tough test, he was willing to surrender the most loved for obedience to God. This message is in line with deep advice Manners Al-Mufrad The work of Imam Al-Bukhori (Chapter 3, p. 15):
Your children are God’s gift for you
Meaning: “Indeed, your children are a gift of Allah to you. He gives to who he wants a daughter, and to whom he wants a boy.”
Educational affection means directing children to Ridho Allah, not just hugging tightly for self -satisfaction.
Eternal lessons for children’s education
The story of the Prophet Ibrahim as and the Prophet Ismail As teaching four important things for the education of children of this era:
- The foundation of monotheism from an early age.
- Open dialogue and soft communication.
- Real example in obedience.
- Affection that frees from the ego of ownership.
As the Prophet Muhammad said:
God loves when one of you does it to do it.
Meaning: “Indeed, Allah loves if one of you does a job, he perfects it. (HR. Imam Ath-Thobroni in Al-Mu’jam al-Awsath)
Children’s education in Islam is not only about knowledge, but the formation of the heart, morals, and faith. Abraham’s story as Abadi guidance which combines the thoughts, hearts, and spirit of educational breath.
If parents of this age are able to emulate this educational pattern, then the generation will be born strong monotheism, soft heart, and its principles In the midst of the swift flow of times.
Hope it is useful. Wallohu a’lam.
