About Semarang – Good news for all PLN customers!
The government through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) announced that electricity tariffs in August 2025 did not increase.
This policy applies to all groups of customers, both households, business, industry, and social services – including those who receive subsidies.
This decision was conveyed directly by the Director General of ESDM Electricity, Jisman P. Hutajulu, on Friday (6/27/2025).
He asserted that the electricity tariff for the third quarter of 2025 (July -September) would remain as before.
“To support the momentum of national economic growth and increase people’s purchasing power and industrial competitiveness, electricity tariffs in the third quarter of 2025 are decided, as long as it is not determined by the government,” he said.
This policy is the result of quarterly evaluation carried out in accordance with the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation Number 7 of 2024.
The government considers a number of macroeconomic aspects, including:
- Indonesian crude oil prices (ICP)
- National inflation rate
- Reference Coal Prices (HBA)
By holding back tariffs, the government wants to maintain people’s purchasing power, provide breathing space for business actors, and stabilize the national economy in the midst of the dynamics of global energy prices.

Electricity subsidies are a form of assistance from the government to certain community groups that are considered low -income.
The difference between economic tariffs and subsidized rates is borne by the state and distributed through PLN.
With this subsidy, customers who meet the requirements will pay cheaper than non-subsidized customers for the same electricity usage.
This helps ease the burden of poor households and encourage energy distribution.
The policy did not increase electricity tariffs in August 2025 to be a breath of fresh air in the midst of the uncertainty of the global economy.
People can design household expenses more stable without worrying about the surge of electricity bills.
Meanwhile, businesses and industries can enjoy the efficiency of operational costs, especially in the manufacturing sector, MSMEs, and public services that are very sensitive to energy costs.
With this decision, the government shows its commitment in maintaining economic stability and community welfare.
People are advised to remain wise in using electricity, even though the tariff does not rise, for the sake of national energy efficiency. ***
