Ahead of Boyong from Islamic Boarding Schools, the santri male students of class XII Pondok Pesantren Darul Ma’arif Kaplongan Sowan said goodbye to the Kyai Caretakers Pondok. This tradition is a momentum full of emotion as well as spiritual which is full of meaning. In addition to Sowan, the students also carried out pilgrimage to Makbaroh Kyai Arsyad – the Assistance of the Darul Ma’arif Kaplongan Islamic Boarding School – and continued to Makbaroh Sunan Gunung Jati in Cirebon as a form of respect for the saints and ulama.

This step is part of the manners of a santri who want to leave the pesantren. They not only say goodbye physically, but also connecting blessings with teachers who have educated them for years.

It is known, the students will continue their journey of life to various parts of the world. There are those who study or work in big cities like Bandung, Yogyakarta, Bogor and Blitar. In fact, not a few of those who migrated to foreign countries such as Germany, Japan, Saudi Arabia, to South Korea.

On the opening occasion, the Kyai gave valuable advice that would be the provision of the lives of students outside after graduating from the pesantren.

Buya KH. Mukromin Thohir, one of the main caregivers of the pesantren, confirms the importance of maintaining five times prayers:

“Santri who have never left the five daily prayers. And the prayer must be in congregation. Wherever you are, be a useful person to the surroundings.”

Meanwhile, KH. Hasbullah, Lc. reminds that students have moral responsibilities towards the world:

“Take care of the contents of this world wherever you are. Speed ​​the knowledge you have gained at the DM pesantren, because you are the successor to the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) struggle.”

A very touching message also came from Kyai Sanuri, S.Pd.I who emphasized the importance of manners to the teacher:

“Take care of courtesy. Never tell someone that the teacher is my former teacher. Forever the teacher is your teacher, because they are the ones who educate and teach knowledge to you. Never leave the five times prayers, and istiqomah in worship.”

The Sowan tradition before Boyong is not just a formal ceremonial, but part of the scientific and spiritual rihlah that has been inherited by the scholars since long ago. In the Islamic treasures, Sowan to the teacher before Boyong contained grades Manners And Tab (take blessings) and useful knowledge, as mentioned in the book of Ta’limul Muta’allim by Imam Az-Zarnujy:

Know that knowledge seekers do not gain knowledge and do not benefit from him except by glorifying knowledge and his family and glorifying the professor and respect

Meaning: “Know, a student will not gain knowledge and will not be able to get useful knowledge, unless he wants to glorify knowledge, experts in science, and respect the majesty of the teacher.” (Burhanuddin Az-Zarnujy, Ta’imul Muta’allim, Chapter Ta’dzimul ‘Ilmi Wa Ahlihi, p. 23)

With this tradition, the Darul Ma’arif Kaplongan Islamic Boarding School not only prints knowledge of knowledge, but also instills morals, submissions, and respect for spiritual mentors who have devoted everything for the sake of the nobleness of the knowledge and civilization of humanity.
