Increasing Global Competence, Darul Ma’arif Kaplongan Islamic Boarding School Holds English IHT for Teachers and Education Personnel

Darul Ma’arif Islamic Boarding School Kaplongan Indramayu continues to demonstrate its commitment to improving the quality of human resources through organizing In House Training (IHT) English for teachers, educational staff, as well as asatidz and asatidzah. This activity was carried out over two days, Thursday–Friday (15–16 January 2026)and followed enthusiastically by all participants.

This English IHT aims to improve the basic English communication skills of teaching staff and educational staff as part of developing professionalism and improving the quality of learning in the Islamic boarding school environment. In the midst of globalization and openness of international information, mastery of English is considered to be one of the important competencies that teachers need to have.

This training is designed with a communicative and applicable approach. The material is presented systematically, easy to understand, and adapted to practical needs in the world of education. Participants not only gain an understanding of basic English theory, but are also provided with various simple application tips that can be directly used in teaching and learning activities.

“After taking part in this IHT, I feel more motivated and confident. The material is light, easy to understand, and relevant to the teacher’s needs. The delivery is also communicative, accompanied by simple examples and practices, so that we can immediately be actively involved,” he said.

According to him, this activity is a good first step to build the habit of practicing English on an ongoing basis, especially for Islamic boarding school teachers who are currently more familiar with the study of classical books.

Director of the Darul Ma’arif Islamic Boarding School, Sect. BA Faisal Hasri, S.Com.emphasized that mastery of English is a strategic need in the global era. He hopes that the ustadz and ustadzah will not only excel in classical Islamic literature, but will also be able to reach the treasures of international knowledge and information.

“English is not just a language, but a global gateway. Currently, knowledge, research and international discourse are mostly conveyed in English. Our teachers must be able to access global information, not just rely on local sources,” he stressed.

Furthermore, he added:

“Ustadz and ustadzah as well as all teachers at Darul Ma’arif not only have to be good at reading and understanding classical Islamic books (Kitab Kuning), but also have to be confident as users of English, so that Islamic boarding schools are not left behind in global conversations.”

According to him, Islamic boarding schools must be able to combine the strength of Islamic scientific traditions with modern skills in order to remain relevant and competitive at the national and international levels.

In general, the implementation of English IHT provides great benefits, both for general teachers and Islamic boarding school teachers. The collaboration of participants from various backgrounds also enriched the perspectives and learning methods developed during the training. Apart from improving language skills, this activity also opens up space for discussion and sharing of experiences between educators.

In the future, Darul Ma’arif Islamic Boarding School hopes that similar IHT activities can continue to be carried out on an ongoing basis with more intensive speaking practice portions and a more applicable focus.
